A popular cultivated mushroom in Japan, the Nameko grows on broadleaf hardwoods such as oak, beech and poplar, and can also grow on conifer wood. Fruits well on buried logs or sawdust/chips/bran. Enjoys cool temperatures. Fungi Perfecti is constantly working with these strains, screening and maintaining cell lines. Fungi Perfecti is releasing the following strains for use on a conditional basis. Each order of in vitro mushroom cultures is custom-made: lead time for cultures is 6–8 weeks from date of order.

Each strain is recognized by the Stamets P Value® scale, which indicates the number of mycelium divisions required to cover a 100 × 15 mm petri dish (about 1,000–2,000). P-O denotes the age of a species when it is cultivated for the first time. Each subsequent development on the surface of the petri dish is stated in increments of P-l, etc. This collection strives to preserve strains that are closest to their wild origins or to their maximum fruiting potential. Each culture is contained inside a 125 mm × 20 mm glass test tube.
