Ideal growing conditions for our shiitake mushroom growing kit:

Once your shiitake mushroom kit arrives and it has the brown “shiitake bark”, you can begin the process of using your kit. We recommend placing your shiitake kit in refrigeration before you begin misting the kit with water. The cool temperature is a method of “shocking” the kit into fruiting. If the temperature outside is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, then you can keep the shiitake kit outside for 24 hours before starting.

The ideal range for fruiting this shiitake mushroom growing kit is 45-70 degrees Fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 80-85%.  Buy Try Our Shiitake Mushroom Growing Kit for Fresh Mushrooms online.

Preparing your kit:

Remove the plastic bag from the shiitake block. Leave the plastic on the bottom so mushrooms will not fruit out the bottom of the block. It is best to put the shiitake block on a plate or baking sheet to catch any excess water once you begin spraying the kit.  Buy Try Our Shiitake Mushroom Growing Kit for Fresh Mushrooms online.

Light:

Place your shiitake mushroom kit in an area with enough lighting. To produce fruit, shiitake mushrooms need light, but not a huge quantity of it and not direct sunlight. If you can readily read a book in the area where you’ve put your shiitake mushroom growing kit, then it is receiving enough light to grow properly.

Humidity:

Start spraying your shiitake mushroom growing kit with water two or three times each day so the humidity level is sufficient for the shiitake mushrooms to fruit. As stated before, optimal relative humidity is around 85 percent. Within two weeks, little shiitakes will begin to emerge; this is known as the pinning stage. After a further four days of misting, these tiny mushrooms will reach maturity and be ready for harvesting.

If necessary, a clear bag may be placed over the shiitake block to enhance humidity. You may also use a tiny open bin. If you want to use a humidity tent, such as a plastic bag or small open container, ensure that the kit also gets fresh air, otherwise the shiitakes will not develop properly.

CO2 and Airflow:

The shiitake mushroom growing kit requires fresh air movement, else the mushrooms may not develop properly. If you see that the fruiting bodies appear strange, it is likely that the location of the kit requires a greater amount of air circulation. During the fruiting stage, adjusting the airflow will help the mushrooms correct their form.

When shiitake mushrooms are ready to harvest

Shiitakes should be taken while the cap is still somewhat coiled or when the partial veil has just begun to separate. Prior to the cap margin becoming flat or rolled, mushrooms have a superior texture and preserve considerably longer. Cutting with scissors or a knife is optimal for harvesting. By harvesting the shiitakes flush with the block, subsequent flushes are less likely to be contaminated. After picking, refrigerate your shiitake mushrooms for storage.

Allow the shiitake mushroom growing kit to rest after your first harvest

After the first harvest of fresh shiitake mushrooms, the block must rest for two to three weeks. During this rest time, you will stop from spraying the kit with water and instead allow it to dry off in a designated place. An ideal setting is one that is cool, dry, and has air circulation.

After two or three weeks, after the block has dried, a second flush may be initiated by immersing it in water for five to ten hours. You must use a brick or comparable item to maintain the block’s submersion. Once the kit has been soaked, place it back on the plate or baking sheet where the first flush was created. Continue spraying the block twice daily. The formation of mushrooms should resume within one week.

After this harvest, the block should rest for a few weeks and this procedure should be repeated. This should be possible at least three times. The number of fruiting mushrooms will decrease with each submersion. Eventually, the shiitake kit will begin to disassemble, at which point you may set it in your garden or compost area to produce occasional more mushrooms.

Understanding the shiitake mushroom from a culinary perspective

When lightly cooked, shiitake mushrooms are richer, butterier, and more meaty than most other mushrooms. When dried, the taste is smokey, nutty, and earthy. Due to their components, shiitake mushrooms are renowned for their umami taste.

The advantages of shiitake mushrooms are more than most people know. Most individuals who consume shiitake mushrooms do so for the tasty flavor and appealing texture. They do not always recognize that these tasty mushrooms are also beneficial to our health. If you are seeking for strategies to promote the health of your immune system or your teeth, shiitake mushrooms may be an excellent option for home cultivation.
